Ding dong, the witch is dead. Hue Jackson out as Cleveland Browns head coach.

Angry Sad Cleveland Browns Fan Bag over head

Hue Jackson is out as head coach of the Cleveland Browns and this group of Browns backers couldn’t be happier.

Jackson was an abomination of a coach, constantly making excuses for his ineptitude or wrongfully placing blame on just about anyone else except for himself.

Facts don’t lie: Jackson’s 36 losses in 40 games are the worst for any head coach in the history of the league (note: we didn’t fact check this, but frankly, we don’t care).

No coach has ever been more deserving of being fired: he made bad teams historically terrible, all while trying to place his own brand above deserved criticism.

Alas, life as a Browns fan will continue even though winning football is far from assured. Knowing the Browns, it will get worse before it gets better. But we here at the Big Apple Browns Backers of NYC promise that we’ll continue to be there for you, providing a safe-haven for CLE fans every Sunday, offering a shoulder to cry on and serving up many, many beers and Penguin shots to momentarily forget your misery (and sobriety).

Here we go Brownies, here we go…

No beer for you! Cleveland Browns legal department squashes our self-made ‘victory fridge’

cleveland browns fan wears paper bag over his head while ashamed of his team
NEW YORK, NY – This morning we received a phone call from the Cleveland Browns legal department, asking us to remove all mention of our self-made ‘victory fridge’ from all social media channels as we featured a beer that was not an official advertiser of the organization, in conjunction with Browns’ logos.

As the story goes, Bud Light and the Cleveland Browns thought it a wise marketing effort to design ‘victory fridges’ which some have argued capitalizes on the despair and heartache of Browns fans, adding fuel to the fire that is our existence in football futility.

The concept was simple: if the Cleveland Browns ever win a game, these fridges would unlock, allowing thirsty Browns fans to celebrate with free beer, as if to miraculously quench the last 632 days we’ve spent since the Browns last won a football game.

Let it be known, that as upstanding members of the Browns Backers’ community, the Big Apple Browns Backers of NYC have obliged and wiped clean our digital history and want to apologize if we have offended the commercial folks over in Berea.

Despite what many thought to be a questionable marketing concept from Bud Light, team officials embraced the opportunity, with Browns chief operating officer Dave Jenkins stating,

“Obviously, we are nowhere near satisfied with our win totals in recent seasons, and our fans deserve much better. While some may characterize it as celebrating one victory, we view this as an opportunity to thank Browns fans for their unwavering support while also looking forward to our goal of rewarding Cleveland with a consistently winning football team.”

Within minutes of ESPN sports business reporter Darren Rovell breaking the original Bud Light story, we were inundated with inquires from our dedicated Big Apple Browns Backers members, asking us to contact Bud Light in hopes of getting our own fridge. Upon request, we were informed by our local Bud Light distributor that the fridges would not be made available to any bars outside of Cleveland. Fair enough.

As one of the largest Browns Backers chapters in the entire country, known to draw crowds of 200-400 rabid CLE fans any given Sunday, we were clearly discouraged by their decision. In an attempt to reward our members for their unwavering support we decided to make our own victory fridge, filled with bottles of champagne, cinnamon-flavored whiskey and lots of a beer that-is-not-to-be-named.

Sadly, the Cleveland Browns and Bud Light did not share our enthusiasm, and called with a stern cease-and-desist request because we placed decals on our fridge that used the Cleveland Browns logo and word-mark, which are not allowed to be associated with a non-paying team advertiser, given the established Cleveland Browns Backers Bylaws.

We get it and we’ve fixed it. Clearly it wasn’t our intention to get anyone in trouble here.

Over the last 7 seasons, we have grown our chapter into one of the most dedicated & diehard the Browns Backers Worldwide have to offer. Our members show up every Sunday, loss after loss, taking time out of their busy lives to support a team that continuously lets them down every single week.

Over that same time period, the Cleveland Browns have embarrassed their fan-base, going 24-78 (.235), becoming just the second team in NFL history to go 0-16, and are SO bad that their official beer sponsor thought it would be justifiable to celebrate that losing-effort with a marketing gimmick.

Cleveland Browns, we hear you loud and clear. Noted, acknowledged and remedied. Call off the lawyers — we need to save those legal fees for half-priced wings and $12 pitchers of not-Bud Light.

Note: Fox 8 Cleveland covered our win fridge saga on the Sep 18th evening news. Video below.

Cleveland Browns vs Giants pre-season game in NYC – Join the Browns Backers, August 9th!

Our beloved Cleveland Browns will be kicking off the pre-season versus the NY Giants, in our own backyard, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

Join the Big Apple Browns Backers of NYC and other New York City based Browns fans for the game as we cheer on the defening pre-season champions!

WHEN: Thursday, August 9th at 7pm.

The bad news: the Giants do NOT do group ticket sales as 90% of their tickets are held by season ticket owners.

The good news: tens of thousands of tickets are available through Ticketmaster and Stubhub for really cheap since these same season ticket owners don’t care about preseason football.

Accordingly, we encourage everyone to grab tickets in the following 4 sections behind the Browns bench so we can all sit together:

  • Sections 142, 143, 144, 146

Will there still be a watch party at the bar? NO! The Cleveland Browns haven’t played in NYC since the 2015 season. Get out to the game and show everyone that the Dawg Pound is well represented in the Big Apple.

Cleveland Browns Backers NYC Brother Jimmys Murray Hill
Effective immediately, we’re moving our location from Union Square to Brother Jimmy’s Murray Hill and re-branding as the Big Apple Browns Backers.

We’re also the same folks running the show — Noah, Sean, Lexi and yes, the beloved Shot Penguin.

Formerly the Union Square Browns Backers, we are using this opportunity to better serve Cleveland sports fans in the Big Apple. Over the past 7 years, we’ve grown to become THE destination for all Cleveland sports in NYC, with crowds topping 700+ for Cavs and Indians playoff games. Thank you, the fans, for all your dedication and support.

Because of this, our loyal friends at Brother Jimmy’s Murray Hill have renovated their massive basement just for us to create a Cleveland safe-haven for our fans: a full bar with familiar bartenders, full-menu & dedicated wait-staff, 12 TVs plus 2 projectors, full audio, and Cleveland-only food & drink specials.

For Cavs and Indians playoff games, we’ll have the entire bar and dining areas, upstairs and downstairs.

What can you do to help?

1 – Tell your CLE friends that we’ve moved. The Union Square Brother Jimmy’s location is permanently closed to all business.

2 – Give us a positive review on Google. We really appreciate this one. If you feel so kind, give us a positive review on Facebook as well.

3- Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We won’t spam you with nonsense, but it’s the best way to stay informed about watch-party announcements and the occasional dank meme when applicable.

4 – Officially join our chapter. It’s 100% free and takes 5 mins to join through the Browns Backers Worldwide website.
